Elderly Woman Loses Life as Car Plunges into Fraser River

A tragic incident occurred in Chilliwack as a 71-year-old woman lost her life when a vehicle crashed into a hydro pole and ended up in the Fraser River.

The Upper Fraser Valley RCMP reported that the accident took place at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Ballam Road last Friday.

The 2001 green Audi sedan, carrying two individuals, veered off the road and plunged into the river.

Fortunately, bystanders acted swiftly by rescuing the occupants from the submerged car and providing CPR until emergency responders arrived at the scene.

BC Emergency Health Services dispatched an air ambulance helicopter to assist in the emergency.

Following the incident, BC Emergency Health Services confirmed that both patients were taken to the hospital, with one in stable condition and the other in critical condition.

Authorities are currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the collision and are urging anyone with information regarding the incident or the vehicle’s actions leading up to the crash to come forward.
