Linda Annis Energizes Surrey Election Race: Unveils Dynamic Slate of Council Candidates

Surrey First Announces First Slate of Council Candidates for 2026 Election

Surrey First councillor Linda Annis, who is also a mayoral hopeful, has unveiled the first four members who will join her council team in the upcoming municipal election next year.

The new candidates joining Annis on the campaign trail are retired journalist Janet Brown, Whalley Little League President Clint Stewart, construction executive Taj Sandhu, and autism advocate Deb Antifaev.

“We are putting together a strong team of candidates who are prepared to start working from day one,” Annis stated in a press release issued on Monday.

If elected as mayor, Annis has promised to advocate for a light rail system, cancel the city’s proposed 10,000-seat arena, and address what she perceives as delays in the police transition process.

Annis expressed her concerns, stating, “Under Mayor Brenda Locke’s leadership, along with her four councillors, the progress on the police transition has been obstructed or delayed.”

“Other important matters have been neglected. Surrey voters deserve a city council and mayor capable of addressing multiple issues concurrently, and that is precisely what we aim to provide.”

Annis officially declared her candidacy for mayor in early September and has announced that more Surrey First candidates will be introduced in January.

The municipal election is set for October 17, 2026.
