A tragic incident unfolded in Whitby as a 24-year-old man lost his life following an altercation that led to a fatal assault. The incident occurred late in the evening on October 4 in a parking lot near Colborne Street East and Green Street, where a fight was reported.
Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement discovered the victim, later identified as Thomas Holm of Whitby, who had sustained critical injuries. He was rushed to a trauma centre in Toronto, but unfortunately, he did not survive.
Subsequently, the authorities apprehended the suspect, 28-year-old Austin Hill of Ajax, at his residence. Hill has now been charged with manslaughter in connection to the incident.
The community is shocked by this tragic event, as it marks the sixth homicide in the Durham region for the year 2025.
