A man from Quebec has been given a life sentence in prison after admitting to second-degree murder and desecration of a body related to the tragic death of his wife, 34-year-old Robyn-Krystle O’Reilly.
Kevin Romagosa entered the plea of guilty on Monday morning at the Drummondville courthouse. Initially facing a charge of first-degree murder, the case did not go to trial following a joint sentencing recommendation that was approved by the judge.
The body of O’Reilly was found in August 2023 along a rural road in Wickham, situated in Quebec’s Centre-du-Québec region, approximately 100 kilometers southeast of Montreal. Romagosa, who was 40 years old at the time, was apprehended at the location.
The couple had been residing together in Pierrefonds, a neighborhood in Montreal.
Concerned relatives had reached out to the authorities after losing contact with the couple, leading to a search that culminated in tragedy.
Romagosa has been handed a life sentence in jail with no possibility of parole for 17 years. Additionally, he received a five-year term for the offense of desecration of a body. With credit for the 38 months already served in custody, he has 22 months left to serve on that part of the sentence, which will run concurrently.
O’Reilly, a mother of two young children aged four and six at the time of her passing, had a fundraiser organized earlier to aid her mother, Tara O’Reilly, in caring for the children.
In a previous phase of the legal proceedings, Romagosa was deemed competent to stand trial following a psychiatric evaluation ordered by the court, the details of which are confidential.
