Mississauga Riders Brace for Fare Hikes in 2026

Mississauga’s MiWay Transit to Implement Fare Increase for Seniors in 2026

Mississauga’s public transit system, MiWay, is set to raise fares for riders next year, particularly affecting seniors who will see a $3.50 increase for cash fares.

During a recent city budget committee meeting, council members approved the revised pricing structure for both MiWay and PRESTO card users.

Starting in 2026, the new MiWay fare adjustments will include the following changes:

Seniors aged 65 and above will continue to ride MiWay for free, but only when using a PRESTO card set to the senior fare type.

City officials explained that the hike in cash fares for seniors is intended to encourage the adoption of PRESTO cards to access discounted fares.

“This move aims to standardize all cash fares across MiWay to the same rate for all passengers, irrespective of age (adults, youth, or seniors),” stated city officials in a media release.
