Toronto Welcomes Long-Awaited Rain Amidst Autumn Chill

After a prolonged period of dry and mild conditions, Toronto is welcoming its first substantial rainfall in weeks as showers swept into the city early on Tuesday morning. This shift in weather brings cooler temperatures during the day and crisp nights ahead.

According to Environment Canada, Tuesday’s forecast includes showers throughout the day, along with a potential for thunderstorms and expected rainfall between 10 and 20 millimetres. The winds will shift to the southwest at 20 km/h, with a high of 21°C and a humidex of 27. Conditions are likely to clear by late evening, with temperatures dropping to 8°C overnight.

As the rain clears, the city can look forward to a sunny stretch starting on Wednesday, although daytime highs will noticeably cool down. Wednesday is anticipated to reach a high of 15°C in Toronto, with an overnight low of 5°C. Thursday’s high is forecasted at 14°C, leading into a slightly warmer end of the week with temperatures hitting 18°C by Friday.

Historically, Toronto typically sees average highs around 15–16°C and lows near 7°C during the second week of October, as per Environment and Climate Change Canada records. This week’s weather aligns closely with seasonal norms, although Tuesday’s humidex of 27 was a bit on the warm side for this time of year.

In recent years, Toronto has witnessed varied weather patterns in early October. In 2022, daytime highs soared to 23°C during the second week, while in 2020, overnight lows almost reached freezing temperatures. Similarly, last year in October 2024, a comparable pattern to this week occurred: a rainy start followed by clear, cool days of sunshine.
