“Alert: Salmonella Scare Sparks Recall of Pistachios in North Vancouver!”

Health Canada has issued a recall for pistachio kernels sold at a North Vancouver supermarket over concerns of Salmonella contamination. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency specified that the affected product, identifiable by a UPC code starting with ‘200422’, was distributed at Kourosh Foods Market on Lonsdale Avenue and should not be consumed.

Salmonella-contaminated food may not exhibit obvious signs of spoilage, yet can pose health risks, leading to symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Vulnerable groups such as young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of severe or fatal infections.

In response to this issue, the CFIA has initiated over 25 recalls of pistachio products nationwide since July. Recent weeks have seen more than a dozen individuals hospitalized in Canada due to a Salmonella outbreak associated with pistachios.
