Judge Halts Legal Proceedings Against Fashion Mogul Peter Nygard in Winnipeg

Former Fashion Mogul Peter Nygard Evades Charges Due to Police Mistakes

In a recent turn of events, a judge in Winnipeg has decided to drop charges against ex-fashion magnate Peter Nygard. The decision came after Nygard’s defense attorney argued that the charges of sexual assault and unlawful confinement should be dismissed due to mishandling by the police.

The charges against Nygard stemmed from an incident dating back to 1993 when a woman alleged she was sexually assaulted at a warehouse in Manitoba’s capital. However, Nygard’s lawyer, Gerri Wiebe, revealed in court that critical reports from the woman’s interviews with the police had been inadvertently destroyed, undermining the case against Nygard.

Despite this reprieve in Winnipeg, Nygard, now 84 years old, still faces legal battles elsewhere. He is set to face trial on sex charges in Quebec and is also facing extradition to the United States on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. Nygard had already been sentenced to 11 years for sex offenses in Toronto last year.
