Winnipeg Judge Halts Prosecution of Fashion Mogul Peter Nygard Amid Legal Drama

A judge in Winnipeg has decided to drop charges against former fashion tycoon Peter Nygard after his lawyer argued in court that the charges of sexual assault and unlawful confinement should be dismissed due to police errors.

The allegations against Nygard date back to 1993 when a woman claimed she was sexually assaulted at a warehouse in Manitoba’s capital. Nygard’s lawyer, Gerry Wiebe, stated in court that the woman had provided information to the police in two interviews, but the records of those interviews were later lost.

While these charges have been stayed, Nygard, who is 84 years old, still faces legal proceedings in Quebec for sex-related offenses and is also awaiting extradition to the United States to face charges of sex trafficking and racketeering.

Nygard was previously sentenced to 11 years in prison for sex crimes in Toronto.
