Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow revealed on Thursday that TTC will enhance Line 2 Bloor-Danforth subway service to pre-pandemic levels starting October 12, aiming to boost transit accessibility as more Torontonians return to in-person work.
Commuters on Line 2 can anticipate trains arriving every two minutes and 20 seconds during peak morning hours, with increased frequency throughout the day. This adjustment will introduce six additional trains during busy periods, increasing the capacity to accommodate up to 6,000 additional passengers.
During the announcement on Thursday morning, Mayor Chow emphasized the city’s dedication to enhancing the reliability and frequency of transit services.
“Residents of Toronto deserve improved and more frequent transit options, and we are committed to delivering just that,” stated Chow. “The service enhancement revealed today will positively impact the daily commute of thousands of Line 2 users.”
The TTC also confirmed enhancements to several bus routes starting October 12.
According to TTC Chair Jamaal Myers, these changes are focused on ensuring a solid foundation for commuters, offering faster and more dependable service during peak and non-peak periods.
As more employees return to downtown Toronto office buildings, TTC CEO Mandeep Lali noted that the agency is adapting to the evolving ridership trends.
“As the workforce returns to in-person duties this autumn, the TTC is prepared to meet the increased demand by enhancing capacity at vital times and locations,” Lali affirmed. “This marks the initial phase of several planned service enhancements throughout the fall.”
The TTC highlighted that the October modifications signal the start of a gradual extension of services throughout the network, with further adjustments anticipated in the upcoming months.
