The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has announced a shift in their protest strategy, moving from a full nationwide walkout to rotating strikes.
In a recent statement released on Thursday night, CUPW’s President Jan Simpson shared that the transition to rotating strikes will commence on Saturday, October 11 at 6 AM local time. Simpson emphasized that while this adjustment will kickstart the movement of mail and parcels, their primary goal remains securing fair collective agreements and safeguarding the integrity of public postal services.
Acknowledging the gravity of the situation, Simpson mentioned, “We did not make the choice to transition to a nationwide strike lightly. Postal workers are committed to reaching new collective agreements and resuming mail delivery rather than resorting to strike actions.”
The specific details regarding which localities will engage in rotating strikes will be communicated closer to the scheduled actions, as outlined in the official union statement.
