In the early hours of Saturday, a driver sustained serious injuries after rear-ending a stopped bus in the Rivière-des-Prairies neighborhood of Montreal.
The incident took place around 2 a.m. as the driver was heading south on Rodolphe-Forget Blvd., near Henri-Bourassa Blvd. The collision was so intense that it caused the driver’s vehicle to ignite.
Constable Raphaël Bergeron, the Montreal Police Department (SPVM) spokesperson, mentioned, “The bus driver assisted the individual out of the vehicle. He was swiftly transported to the hospital due to the severity of his injuries.”
The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and the reason behind the crash is currently unknown. Officer Bergeron stated, “Various factors like fatigue, distraction, or alcohol are being considered as potential causes.”
A collision investigation specialist was dispatched to the scene, and the police eventually cleared the area later that morning.
Jean-Pierre Brabant, another SPVM spokesperson, confirmed that the driver’s condition has stabilized.
The investigation by the SPVM is ongoing.
