Winter Alert: Potential Snowfall on Interior Highways Could Impact Holiday Travel Plans

If you’re planning a Thanksgiving getaway to British Columbia’s Interior this long weekend, remember to prepare your winter tires for the changing weather conditions.

The latest update from Environment Canada warns of potentially challenging conditions on high-elevation highway passes, especially along the Okanagan Connector (connecting Merritt and Kelowna) and Allison Pass (linking Hope to Princeton).

According to the weather service, a cold front moving through the region will bring a significant drop in temperatures starting Saturday afternoon. This, combined with moisture from a weather system moving through Washington, is likely to result in snowfall over the mountainous highway routes.

Forecasts suggest that anywhere from two to 10 centimeters of snow could accumulate, affecting visibility and potentially causing travel disruptions.

The special weather statement is set to be in effect from Saturday afternoon through Thanksgiving Monday, urging travelers to stay updated on the evolving conditions.
