PM Carney Jets to Egypt for Eleventh-Hour Summit on Trump’s Peace Initiative

Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to depart for Egypt today to participate in a summit focused on the recent truce facilitated by U.S. President Donald Trump between Israel and Hamas.

Carney will be traveling to Sharm el-Sheikh, where he will join leaders from around the world on Monday for a “peace summit” co-chaired by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi.

Representatives from various Middle Eastern countries, as well as France, Germany, and the U.K., will also be in attendance.

The current truce has allowed for three days of relief efforts to begin, with aid organizations gearing up to provide essential supplies such as food and medicine to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, while Israel starts to withdraw its troops.

In a goodwill gesture, Hamas is expected to release approximately 20 hostages on Monday morning in exchange for Israel releasing Palestinian prisoners and detainees, along with returning the bodies of 28 Israeli captives.

Although the truce was brokered by Trump, uncertainties loom over the prospects of a lasting ceasefire and the possibility of a comprehensive peace agreement being achieved.
