Quebec’s new initiative to combat organized crime involves supporting community organizations and promoting crime prevention among vulnerable individuals and at-risk youth. The province’s Public Security Minister, Ian Lafrenière, emphasizes the importance of prevention alongside enforcement in tackling various criminal activities. The program, funded with $139.4 million over five years, aims to innovate and streamline government efforts in crime prevention and reduction.
Minister Lafrenière encourages community organizations to share their ideas and apply for funding to enhance their work on the ground. The initiative consists of three key components: supporting organizations combating crime and sexual exploitation, developing new interventions for emerging criminal trends, and promptly addressing priority crime issues through prevention and enforcement measures.
Applications for the first two components are currently being accepted until November 18. The upcoming third component will be launched soon, offering further opportunities for organizations to contribute to the fight against organized crime. Organizations interested in participating can find more information on how to apply on the program’s official website.
