Toronto Police Seek Public’s Aid to Find Family After Tragic Death of Unhoused 62-Year-Old

Toronto authorities have identified Joseph Eric Aubin, a 62-year-old unhoused man, as the victim of a brutal and unprovoked attack outside city hall last September. This incident, part of a series of violent assaults targeting vulnerable individuals in the downtown area, led to Aubin’s tragic passing.

Suspects involved in the attack, a 12-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man, have been charged with second-degree murder and other related offenses. The assault on Aubin, which occurred near Queen Street West and Bay Street, left him with severe injuries that ultimately proved fatal.

Detectives described the string of attacks as a disturbing crime spree, emphasizing that the victims were randomly targeted and not known to the assailants. Isaiah Byers, 20, from Toronto, faces multiple charges in connection with the incident, while a 12-year-old male, protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, also faces serious allegations.

Despite extensive efforts, authorities have been unable to locate Aubin’s next of kin to inform them of his passing. He was known by the name ‘Eric’ and is believed to have roots in Quebec. The investigation is ongoing, with police seeking assistance from the public in identifying and reaching out to Aubin’s family.
