The tragic aftermath of a wrong-way crash on Highway 401 has led to a lawsuit filed by the family of the victims against Durham police officers and the estate of the driver responsible. The collision, which occurred in April 2024, claimed the lives of three-month-old Aditya and his grandparents, Manivannan Srinivasapillai, 60, and Mahalakshmi Ananthakrishnan, 55.
The lawsuit, filed by Manivannan and Ashwitha Jawahar, alleges negligence by the officers involved in the pursuit that led to the fatal crash. The family’s lawyers, Brad Moscato and Adam Wagman, confirmed the legal action, emphasizing the family’s need for answers and justice during this incredibly difficult time.
The collision, which shut down part of Highway 401 in Whitby, resulted in tragedy as the cargo van, driven by 21-year-old Gagandeep Singh, collided with the family’s vehicle. Singh, who was fleeing from police following a reported robbery, also lost his life in the crash.
The lawsuit seeks accountability and seeks to uncover the details surrounding the pursuit that ended in devastation for the family. The case will progress through the Ontario courts, aiming to provide closure and justice for the grieving family.
