The Burnaby RCMP is taking additional steps to locate a missing 11-year-old boy named Kai Pavlovic by putting up billboards in various locations across the Lower Mainland and throughout British Columbia. These billboards, which showcase Kai’s image, are part of the police’s efforts to raise awareness about the missing child.
Cpl. Laura Hirst, the media relations officer, emphasized that the billboards are just one of the strategies being used by the police to spread the word about Kai’s disappearance. Hirst stated, “We want everyone to be on the lookout for Kai. Our investigators are dedicated to finding him, and we are seeking the public’s assistance in this ongoing search.”
In addition to the billboards, the police have issued a news release in Serbian, as Kai’s family has strong ties to the Serbian community. Hirst explained, “We want to ensure that information about Kai’s disappearance reaches a broad audience.”
According to the Mounties, they were initially contacted for a well-being check on Kai on September 26 but were unable to locate him. Since then, they have been actively searching for him. On October 9, the police indicated that they believed Kai might be with a caretaker, whom they are trying to identify. They suspect that members of the community might be interacting with Kai as part of his daily routine.
The Burnaby RCMP is urging any adults or parents whose children have had contact with Kai through playdates, sports, or extracurricular activities to come forward and provide information. Kai is described as 5 feet tall, with a slim build and brown hair.
Despite the efforts to locate Kai, an Amber Alert has not been issued in this case, as it does not meet the necessary criteria. The RCMP clarified, “Amber Alerts are reserved for confirmed abduction cases where there is an immediate threat to the child.”
Anyone who has information about Kai’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999.
