“Growing Number of Quebec Residents Express Concern Over Rising Immigration Levels, Recent Poll Reveals”

A recent survey conducted by the Environics Institute sheds light on Canadian attitudes towards immigration and refugees. The findings reveal that 51% of Quebec residents believe there is an excessive amount of immigration in Canada, marking a 5% increase since 2024. On a national level, 56% of Canadians share this sentiment.

Among Quebec respondents who express concerns about high immigration levels, key reasons cited include perceived shortcomings in screening processes, concerns about job competition with both Canadians and existing immigrants, and the belief that immigration contributes to rising home prices.

Furthermore, the survey shows that 43% of Quebecers believe that many individuals claiming refugee status are not genuine refugees, while 33% hold a differing opinion on the matter.

Despite these reservations, a significant 72% of Quebec respondents acknowledge the positive economic impact of immigration in Canada, showing a 4% increase from the previous year.

The Environics Institute conducted this research as part of its longstanding Focus Canada public opinion research program, in collaboration with the Diversity Institute at Toronto Metropolitan University and with support from the Century Initiative.

The survey, which involved telephone interviews with 2,004 Canadians using both landline and cellphones, took place between September 8 and 21, 2025. With a margin of error of plus or minus 2.2 percentage points in 19 out of 20 samples, the results provide valuable insights into the diverse perspectives on immigration across the country.
