Early Friday morning, a dump truck collided with an overpass at Langstaff Road on Highway 400, leading to the closure of the southbound collectors’ lanes. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have indicated that the closure may last for several hours as crews assess the structural damage.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. when a dump truck exiting a nearby construction area struck the underside of the Langstaff Road overpass while traveling southbound, with its rear box still raised.
The collision resulted in the complete detachment of the box from the truck and caused visible damage to the overpass structure. Fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries from the incident.
As of the latest update at 7:05 a.m., the southbound collectors’ lanes at Langstaff Road remain inaccessible. The on-ramp from westbound Langstaff Road has been closed, while the on-ramp from eastbound Langstaff Road remains operational.
Authorities have not provided an estimated timeframe for the lanes to reopen, and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes for their morning commute.
Engineers specializing in structural assessments have been summoned to examine the overpass and determine the necessary repairs. The closure is expected to persist to ensure that repairs are carried out safely.
