“Real-Life Action Blockbuster: Dramatic Police Takedown on Highway After Newmarket Mall Heist Caught on Video!”

York Regional Police have shared dramatic new video footage of a high-stakes arrest involving suspects linked to a violent smash-and-grab robbery at Upper Canada Mall in Newmarket.

The video, filmed amidst rush hour traffic, depicts police surrounding a white Mercedes SUV on Steeles Avenue after a chase along Highway 404.

A witness named Zeb recounted the intense moment, noting the police’s daring maneuver onto the grass to intercept the vehicle. “That’s when I knew something serious was happening,” Zeb shared with CityNews.

He described the chaotic scene with over a dozen police cars in sight, likening it to a movie set. “It was like a whirlwind. The officers were working hard to restore order.”

Authorities confirmed that the stolen Mercedes SUV used in the mall heist was taken earlier that day in a home invasion in Vaughan, though it’s uncertain if the same individuals were involved.

Earlier that same day, five masked individuals raided a jewelry store within the mall, armed with hammers. After breaking display cases and snatching jewelry into duffel bags, they sprayed an irritant at security guards before making their escape.

One witness, Taylor, who works at the mall, recalled the harrowing moment when the suspects unleashed pepper spray on a security guard. “It happened so fast. They sprayed Joey,” Taylor recounted.

The four apprehended suspects include two teenagers from Brampton, one from Toronto, and an 18-year-old from Toronto named Kareem Haniff. They face charges including robbery with a weapon, assault, and possession of stolen property.

Haniff was under an undertaking at the time of the incident, while one of the teens was already out on bail for unrelated offenses.

Authorities are still searching for a fifth suspect, described as a slim-built male aged between 16 and 20, last seen in a black hoodie, pants, shoes, and a face mask.

York Regional Police are appealing to the public for any information regarding the outstanding suspect.
