Toronto Public Library Announces Citywide Sunday Openings, Starting This Weekend

Toronto Public Library to Extend Sunday Hours Across All Branches

Starting this weekend, every one of Toronto’s 100 Public Library branches will be open on Sundays, as announced by Deputy Mayor Paul Ainslie. The decision, part of a plan revealed by Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow in October 2024, aims to provide year-round access from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The initiative, scheduled for full implementation by July 2026, was proposed to better serve the community, with a particular focus on families, students, seniors, and shift workers. Acknowledging the impact of expanded services, Ainslie expressed gratitude to Mayor Chow for her efforts in making this city-wide enhancement possible.

A survey conducted by Forum Research Inc. last year highlighted the importance of public libraries in Toronto, revealing an 81 per cent usage rate among residents following a 13 per cent increase from pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
