“Community Outcry as Playground Closure at Upper Beaches School Leaves Kids Longing for Playtime”

Parents of students at Bowmore Road Junior and Senior Public School in the Upper Beaches neighborhood are raising concerns about the lack of a suitable play area for their children since the beginning of the school year. Due to unexpected tree damage caused by renovations to the parking lot, the kindergarten playground has been closed off, leaving roughly 180 students to share a small grassy space in front of the school during recess.

Frustrated parents emphasize the importance of outdoor play for children’s development and education, noting that the current arrangement is limiting playtime and forcing kids to rotate their time outside. The absence of a proper playground has left children missing their play area and park toys, creating a less than ideal play environment.

Many parents feel that better communication and planning could have prevented the situation, as they express concerns about the lack of foresight in protecting the trees during the parking lot renovations. Despite assurances from the Toronto District School Board that tree removal is scheduled for the upcoming weekend and the playground is set to reopen by the end of October, parents are hoping for expedited repairs to provide a safe and engaging play space for their children.

While safety remains a priority, parents are eager for the school board to prioritize and expedite the restoration of the playground to ensure that students can enjoy outdoor playtime as soon as possible.
