“Security Breach at Blue Jays Playoff: 7 Charged for Illegal Drone Flights Over Rogers Centre”

Toronto police have announced that seven individuals face additional charges for flying drones over Rogers Centre during Toronto Blue Jays playoff games. According to authorities, seven unauthorized drone flights were detected and stopped during Games 1 and 2 of the American League Championship Series on October 12 and 13.

These individuals, who were operating drones, including micro-drones marketed as recreational toys, now face a total of eight charges. They have also been fined for breaching the federally designated no-fly zone, which includes the airspace over the Rogers Centre due to its proximity to the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport’s restricted area.

Under Transport Canada regulations, individuals without a valid drone pilot certificate can be fined between $1,000 and $3,000 for flying in restricted zones.

In response to these incidents, Toronto Police Service officials emphasized the importance of respecting no-drone zones and reiterated that the Rogers Centre is strictly off-limits during all Blue Jays postseason games. This prohibition encompasses all drones, regardless of size or weight, with operators being held accountable for adhering to federal aviation laws.

Earlier in October, two individuals had already faced charges for violating the no-fly zone over the stadium.
