“Justice in Motion: Murder Charges Filed in Tragic 2024 Coquitlam Shooting of 21-Year-Old”

Police have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Coquitlam early last year. The incident took place near Westwood Street and Glen Drive around 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2024. Authorities found a 21-year-old man injured at the scene, who later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. Following the shooting, two suspects were observed fleeing the area.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) provided an update this week, announcing the arrest of the suspect from Coquitlam. The man has been charged with first-degree murder by the BC Prosecution Service.

IHIT expressed concern over the rise in shootings within Coquitlam, emphasizing the audacity of the incident given the location’s proximity to a busy intersection. Sgt. Freda Fong highlighted the ongoing efforts to combat gang-related violence in the community, stressing the importance of ensuring public safety in the face of criminal activities.
