“Oakville Woman Arrested in Major GTA Human Trafficking Bust”

A recent collaborative effort by Halton Regional Police and Peel Regional Police has resulted in the apprehension of an Oakville resident accused of exploiting numerous individuals in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Reports indicate that three adult women were subjected to trafficking in the sex industry throughout the GTA. Authorities assert that the accused individual exerted coercion, manipulation, physical violence, and psychological harm to dominate the victims, all while profiting from their exploitation.

The investigation commenced in September 2025, when the Human Trafficking Unit of the Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) and the Vice Unit of Peel Regional Police (PRP) initiated a joint inquiry into the allegations. On Oct. 1, law enforcement officers carried out a search warrant at a residence in Oakville, confiscating various electronic devices believed to contain incriminating evidence.

The arrest of 33-year-old Shemica Duncan of Oakville took place on Oct. 16 following a comprehensive month-long investigation. Duncan faces a range of charges, including trafficking in persons, material benefit from trafficking in persons, material benefit from sexual services, procuring, advertising sexual services, assault with a weapon, choking, forcible confinement, and uttering threats.

Currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing in Milton, Duncan has also been associated with the alias “Coco,” and authorities suspect there might be additional unidentified victims yet to come forward. A photo of the accused has been released by law enforcement.
