Montreal authorities are looking into a second arson incident within two days involving a commercial building in the Rivière-des-Prairies neighborhood.
In the early hours of Wednesday, emergency services were alerted to an alarm triggered at a property on Henri-Bourassa Blvd. near Rodolphe-Forget Blvd. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered a small fire at the business’s entrance which they promptly extinguished.
Initial reports suggest that the perpetrators forcibly broke the glass front door before igniting the fire and absconding before the police arrived. Fortunately, no accelerants were found at the scene, and the only significant damage was to the shattered entrance door.
The case has now been handed over to the arson division of the Montreal Police Service.
This incident comes on the heels of a similar attempted arson at the same location on Tuesday, where minimal damage was caused by water from sprinklers activating during the incident.
Thankfully, there have been no reports of injuries in either of these events, and as of now, no suspects have been apprehended.
