Delay Strikes Again: Gallant Commission’s Crucial SAAQclic Report Pushed to February 2026

The Legault government has agreed to extend the deadline for the Gallant Commission, investigating the SAAQclic situation, for a second time. The commission now has until February 13, 2026, to deliver its report and recommendations, as announced on Thursday. No specific reason was provided for this further postponement by Justice Minister Simon Jolin-Barrette’s office.

Commissioner Denis Gallant was initially expected to present his final report by September 30, but the deadline was first pushed to December 15 by the government in June. The Gallant Commission is currently gathering insights from politicians and past and current employees of the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), with expert testimonies taking place this week. Public hearings are set to conclude on Friday.

The SAAQ’s troubled digital transformation is anticipated to incur a minimum cost of $1.1 billion to taxpayers by 2027, exceeding previous estimates by $500 million, according to the Quebec Auditor General. Premier Legault initiated the inquiry into SAAQclic last March, emphasizing that Judge Gallant’s findings would be made public ahead of the October 2026 election.
