A former correctional officer at the North Fraser Pretrial Centre in Port Coquitlam is facing charges, according to the Coquitlam RCMP.
The RCMP launched an investigation into a breach of trust involving the officer back in September 2022. Recently, on Oct. 15, 2025, the BC Prosecution Service approved two charges of breach of trust against Ramandeep Rai from Abbotsford.
The alleged offences are said to have taken place between July 14, 2022, and Sept. 29, 2022, for the first charge, and between Sept. 11 and 29, 2022, for the second charge, as per the Mounties.
While the specific details of the charges were not disclosed by the Coquitlam RCMP, they clarified that the investigation and charges are not related to the escape of high-profile fugitive Rabih “Robby” Alkhalil. Alkhalil had escaped from the North Fraser Pretrial Centre in July 2022 and was apprehended in Qatar recently.
1130 NewsRadio has contacted the Ministry of Public Safety for additional information on the case.
