“NDP Urges Premier Ford to Crack Down on Skyrocketing Ticket Resale Prices!”

Opposition parties are ramping up efforts to urge the Ford government to reimpose a cap on resale prices after soaring ticket costs for Toronto Blue Jays’ World Series matches.

According to a report by 680 NewsRadio, NDP leader Marit Stiles will kick off a new campaign on Thursday, launching an online petition near the Rogers Centre, demanding the government to reintroduce anti-scalping laws that were eliminated when the current administration took office six years ago.

Additionally, the party presented a motion late Wednesday, urging the Ford government to modernize the Ticket Sales Act by prohibiting the resale of tickets above their original face value.

Stiles emphasized, “Ontarians should not have to face financial strain to cheer for their team or attend a concert by their favorite artist. If Ford’s Conservatives block this motion, Blue Jays fans can hold him accountable when they cannot afford World Series tickets.”

Premier Ford indicated on Wednesday that he was contemplating introducing legislation to cap prices, stating, “When a single entity dominates the ticket market, it is unfair to the public, so we are currently reviewing the situation,” during a media briefing at Queens Park.

In 2019, the Ford administration scrapped a ticket-capping initiative implemented by the previous Liberal government, criticizing it as unenforceable and arguing that it would have led consumers to resort to black market ticket purchases, further inflating prices.
