Sneaky Dee’s, a popular Toronto bar and music venue, had to remove social media posts advertising specials and a Game 7 watch party for the American League Championship Series due to a warning from the Toronto Blue Jays regarding the unauthorized use of the team’s logo.
The bar’s manager, George Diamantouros, revealed that Sneaky Dee’s received a letter from the Blue Jays citing trademark infringement on Facebook and Instagram posts featuring the team’s logo and players. In response, Sneaky Dee’s promptly deleted the posts and issued a cautionary message to fellow small businesses about using Blue Jays content.
In an Instagram announcement, Sneaky Dee’s urged other family-owned establishments to refrain from using the Blue Jays logo to avoid potential legal repercussions. While expressing appreciation for local businesses supporting the team, the Blue Jays emphasized that their brand assets can only be utilized for promotional activities by official partners, aligning with industry norms.
Despite the setback, Sneaky Dee’s affirmed their commitment to showcasing Blue Jays games, especially as the team competes against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. While acknowledging the excitement surrounding the games, the bar reminded everyone of the importance of adhering to legal guidelines.
Located at College and Bathurst and a fixture in Toronto since 1987, Sneaky Dee’s remains enthusiastic about hosting Blue Jays watch parties and encouraging fans to join in the baseball fervor.
