Unifor Initiates Bargaining Process for Amazon Warehouse Workers in Delta, B.C.
Unifor has taken a significant step by initiating the bargaining process with online retail giant Amazon for the first collective agreement for employees at their warehouse in Delta, British Columbia.
The union has formed a dedicated bargaining committee and conducted surveys among workers to understand their key concerns and priorities for the upcoming contract negotiations. Some of the major issues highlighted include the heavy workload and instances of perceived favoritism within the workplace.
In a recent statement, Unifor expressed frustration over Amazon’s alleged dissemination of misinformation and resistance to acknowledging the rights of its employees, as highlighted by the B.C. Labour Relations Board’s decision to certify the union in response to Amazon’s anti-union conduct.
Unifor emphasized the importance of Amazon recognizing and respecting the basic rights of its workers, as this would pave the way for constructive collective bargaining discussions moving forward.
Amazon did not respond immediately for comments on the matter.
