Ottawa police have charged a 35-year-old man in connection with alleged immigration fraud, warning that more victims may be involved in cities across Canada, including the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Vinay Pal Singh Brar, a resident of Ottawa, faces multiple charges stemming from incidents that took place between January and July 2024, as announced by the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) on Friday. Authorities have revealed that Brar, posing as an immigration consultant, is accused of defrauding several individuals. The investigation, which began in September 2024, has uncovered a troubling pattern of fraudulent activities, according to police officials.

Among the charges laid against Brar are two counts of fraud over $5,000, two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000, as well as charges of assault, assault by choking, and uttering threats. Notably, Brar has been known to use multiple aliases, including Gagandeep Singh, Warisdeep Singh, Waris Singh, Waris Deep Sehmi, and Harsh Harsh.

Investigators are concerned that there may be further victims nationwide, with a particular focus on areas such as the GTA, Calgary, Vancouver, and Surrey.
