“Charges Escalate: Burnaby 2021 Shooting Suspect Faces Second-Degree Murder”

Authorities have announced that a man is facing murder charges in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in Burnaby in 2021, according to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

The tragic incident unfolded on February 11, 2021, when Burnaby RCMP responded to a distress call at the intersection of McKee Street and Curagh Avenue. There, they discovered 44-year-old Neal Pretap with multiple gunshot wounds.

Despite efforts to save him, Pretap succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT expressed that the shooting occurred in what is typically a peaceful neighborhood in Burnaby, leaving local residents shocked and unsettled by the violence.

Following diligent investigative work, Vancouver resident Liam Reilly was apprehended on Friday and now faces charges of second-degree murder.

Currently, Reilly remains in police custody as the legal proceedings continue, as confirmed by IHIT.
