Kim Le, a mother from Kelowna, is facing challenges due to the ongoing strikes by Canada Post and B.C.’s public sector workers, causing a delay in receiving her new baby’s birth certificate.
The delay has become a significant issue for Le, who welcomed her baby in September and is planning a trip to Vietnam in December. She urgently needs the birth certificate to apply for her baby’s passport.
“Without the birth certificate, we are stuck. We can’t go anywhere or do anything with my baby,” Le expressed her frustration.
The situation is not only causing inconvenience but also financial strain for Le as she is unable to register for the Canada Child Benefit amidst the delays.
The Ministry of Citizens’ Services acknowledged that the strikes are affecting their services, including the issuance of vital documents such as birth, death, and marriage certificates. They assure that emergency requests will be prioritized and processed promptly.
Feeling the pressure of the approaching travel deadline, Le is now exploring the option of obtaining a temporary passport for her baby as a backup plan.
