Horrific Head-On Crash on Route 132 in St-Simon-de-Rimouski Leaves One Critically Injured, Two Others Hurt

Early on Sunday morning, a driver is in critical condition following a head-on crash in Saint-Simon-de-Rimouski, located in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) officers in the Basques MRC were informed of the incident around 7:15 a.m., which took place on Route 132.

Initial reports suggest that a sole driver was heading eastbound when they drifted out of their lane and collided head-on with a cube truck traveling in the opposite direction, shared Sergeant Marythé Bolduc, the SQ spokesperson. The driver of the car was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, while the two occupants of the truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Route 132 remained closed at Route Pierre-Jean Sud in both directions until midday, with a possible detour available through local roads, as indicated by the Ministry of Transport website.

An SQ collision specialist is investigating the scene to determine the factors behind the crash, with no immediate theories suggested for the incident.

The Sûreté du Québec’s inquiry is ongoing.
