Police in Delta are currently conducting an investigation following a targeted overnight shooting that seems to be linked to extortion.
Shortly before 3 a.m., officers responded to a distress call at a residence on 78B Avenue and 112th Street. Upon arrival, they discovered shell casings and evidence of multiple gunshots directed at the house.
Fortunately, although the home was occupied, no injuries were reported during the incident.
Surveillance footage captured a suspect exiting a white SUV and firing several shots into the dwelling before quickly fleeing the scene.
The Delta Police Department (DPD) has stated that their initial findings suggest this was a deliberate act connected to an ongoing extortion inquiry.
Authorities plan to collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and the Provincial Extortion Task Force to explore potential links to other cases.
Coincidentally, a similar shooting also occurred at 2:43 a.m. in a location just 12 blocks away in Surrey. Staff Sgt. Lindsay Houghton of the Surrey Police Service (SPS) has confirmed that close coordination between SPS and DPD is underway to determine if these incidents are related, given their timing and vicinity.
