Authorities in Abbotsford have reported a second shooting incident that took place in the city on Monday. According to Sgt. Paul Walker, the shooting occurred at the intersection of George Ferguson Way and Ware Street at approximately 11:45 a.m.
Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers discovered the incident had unfolded in a residence. The house is currently under police containment, with several individuals being detained on-site, as confirmed by Walker in a statement to CityNews.
A 41-year-old man was swiftly airlifted to a hospital in Vancouver to receive treatment for serious yet non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the incident.
Walker reassured that officers are diligently clearing the residence to ensure the safety of all occupants. The AbbyPD has taken individuals believed to be responsible for the gunfire into custody.
Describing the targeted nature of the incident, Walker mentioned that the residence in question was already known to law enforcement, emphasizing that the community is not at further risk.
Earlier that same Monday, another shooting incident resulted in the tragic death of a 68-year-old man near Ridgeview Drive and Summit Drive at approximately 9:20 a.m. The AbbyPD clarified that the two incidents are unrelated and distinct.
George Ferguson Way remains closed to traffic in both directions as authorities maintain an active investigation in the area.
