“Three Arrested Amidst Fiery Weekend Protest at Queen’s Park”

Amid Tensions, Three Arrested in Toronto Anti-Immigration Protests

Over the weekend, downtown Toronto witnessed a clash between demonstrators and counterprotesters at an anti-immigration rally, resulting in the arrest of three individuals.

On Oct. 25, a large group gathered at Queen’s Park for a demonstration, with right-wing nationalist group Canada First leading the charge against federal immigration policies. In response, critics from Community Solidarity TO organized a counterprotest to uphold Toronto’s inclusive values.

“As Torontonians, we stand against hate and welcome immigrants with open arms,” declared Andria Babbington, president of the Toronto and York Region Labour Council.

Despite police efforts to maintain peace, altercations erupted, leading to the arrest of Daniel Ovecka, Bailey Villeneuve, and Shane Graham. Charges ranged from assault to causing disturbances and damaging property.

This incident echoes a similar confrontation last month at Christie Pits Park, where 10 arrests were made during a Canada First rally and counterprotest. The ongoing debate over immigration policies continues to fuel tensions between supporters and opponents.
