Exciting updates have been revealed regarding the upcoming Deux-Montagnes extension of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM), set to open on November 17. The Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) announced that the first trains on the Deux-Montagnes segment, an extension of the existing Brossard line, will depart from Deux-Montagnes and Brossard stations at 5:30 a.m., with the last train leaving Brossard at around 8:30 p.m. and Côte-de-Liesse station at 9 p.m.
This development paves the way for testing on the Anse-à-l’Orme branch, which is slated to open in the spring. The expansion marks a significant enhancement to Montreal’s light-rail system, with 14 stations, including connections to the Montreal metro system at Bonaventure, McGill, and Édouard-Montpetit.
Following the recent opening of the first five stations on the Brossard line, the new Deux-Montagnes branch will also lead to a revamp of bus networks to improve coverage, frequency, and operating hours. exo will roll out its new network in the Laurentians sector on November 10, while the Société de transport de Laval (STL) will adjust its bus network on November 15. The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) will redesign bus routes in the Presqu’Île sector in spring 2026 once the Anse-à-l’Orme branch is operational.
Transit authorities are gearing up to inform and assist users during these network adjustments. Once fully completed, the 67-kilometre REM network will feature 26 stations at an estimated cost of $9.4 billion. The final phase, connecting to Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, is scheduled for completion in 2027.
