Two individuals have been taken into custody following a suspected extortion-related shooting in Surrey during the early hours of Thursday.
According to the Surrey Police Service, law enforcement responded to a call about gunshots fired at a residence on 56 Avenue near King George Boulevard.
Upon arrival, SPS officers confirmed that the exterior of the house had sustained damage from gunfire.
Fortunately, despite several occupants being present inside the residence at the time of the incident, no injuries were reported.
Law enforcement officials identified a suspicious vehicle in the vicinity of the property and subsequently apprehended two suspects.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting may be linked to extortion activities and could be connected to other ongoing cases.
This recent shooting is among the many incidents that have occurred in Surrey and the Lower Mainland this year, predominantly affecting the South Asian community and local business proprietors.
Authorities have disclosed that the BC Extortion Task Force is actively involved in the investigation.
Individuals who may have witnessed the shooting or possess relevant information, CCTV footage, or dashcam recordings are encouraged to reach out to the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502, quoting file number 25-95384 (SP).
