“Milestone Achieved: Main Span of Pattullo Bridge Now Links New Westminster and Surrey!”

The construction of the new Pattullo Bridge in British Columbia has achieved a significant milestone this week.

All the steel segments, deck panels, and stay cables have been successfully installed, connecting the north and south ends of the bridge. This progress marks a crucial step towards completing the bridge, which provides a vital link between Surrey and New Westminster.

With the major structural components in place, workers will now focus on adding the final details to the bridge. The new Pattullo Bridge, with a total cost of $1.6 billion, is expected to be operational just in time for Christmas.

According to the Ministry of Transportation, the upgraded bridge will boast wider lanes separated by a center median barrier, offering improved safety for drivers. Additionally, the new bridge will feature expanded walking and cycling paths in both directions, enhancing accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists.

Construction on the Pattullo Bridge replacement project commenced in 2021, with an initial target opening date set for 2023. Despite the delay, authorities are committed to delivering a modern and efficient bridge for the community.
