“REM Service Faces Unexpected Halt Due to Glitch, Foreshadowing November Disruptions”

The REM, Montreal’s metropolitan rapid transit network, faced a temporary service disruption early Friday morning due to a technical issue, causing delays for commuters traveling between downtown and Montreal’s South Shore. Service gradually resumed in both directions by 6:30 a.m., with shuttle buses deployed to assist affected passengers.

The REM reported that the interruption was caused by a technical problem, specifically a train stopping between Gare Centrale and Île-des-Sœurs station before service hours, though no passengers were on board. Agents were dispatched to address the issue and restore normal operations.

Looking ahead, the REM has scheduled full system shutdowns on November 2, 8, and 9 to complete necessary work for an upcoming commissioning, with the new Deux-Montagnes branch expected to open on November 17. Additionally, an early closure is planned for Friday, November 7, with the last departures scheduled at 9:20 p.m. from Brossard and 9:40 p.m. from Central Station, and shuttle buses will be provided for commuters.
