Students at Honoré-Mercier Elementary School in St-Leonard were in for an unforgettable Halloween treat when the school library was magically transformed into a spooky haunted house last Friday.
The Home and School parent committee orchestrated the event, giving every grade the opportunity to wander through creepy decorations and themed settings to create a thrilling and memorable Halloween experience.
Felicia Spadafino, president of the Home and School committee, shared that the haunted house concept was the result of collaborative effort and creativity among the parent committee members.
“We all came together to brainstorm ideas. After a few nights, we came up with this haunted forest concept,” explained Spadafino. “We repurposed many of our Christmas trees to stay within budget. It was all about brainstorming, communicating, and having amazing team members.”
Seeing the excitement and joy on the students’ faces made all the planning worthwhile, according to Spadafino.
“The kids are adorable and thrilled to see their school transformed. It’s a whole new experience for them,” she said.
Spadafino, who portrayed a werewolf in the haunted forest, enjoyed the role of scaring the students.
“I had a blast hiding behind walls, crawling on my knees, and surprising them with little scares and growls to keep them on their toes,” she shared.
Vice-president Romina Mancini highlighted that the haunted house has become a cherished tradition at Honoré-Mercier Elementary School for over 30 years, providing a mix of fun and fright for the children.
To ensure every student had a chance to participate, a detailed schedule was arranged with options for exploring the haunted house with lights on or off, catering to varying levels of scare tolerance.
The spooky journey began with a chilling story and some unexpected scares, creating an immersive experience for the students.
Mancini expressed that witnessing the children’s delight justified the hard work put into organizing the event.
“It’s a rewarding experience. I love Halloween and spending time with the kids. Their reactions make it all worthwhile,” she said.
The setup for the haunted house required a full day of dedication from the committee members, starting early in the morning and lasting until late at night, demonstrating their commitment to providing a memorable Halloween experience for the students.
