Eby Reverses Course: B.C. to Join Forces in Tariff Battle, Scraps Solo Ad Campaign Plan

British Columbia Premier David Eby has announced a shift in strategy regarding anti-tariff advertisements for the American public. Eby, in collaboration with Dominic LeBlanc, the minister overseeing Canada-U.S. trade, emphasized the importance of aligning communication with U.S. authorities amid discussions on softwood lumber tariffs.

During a summit in Vancouver focused on supporting the forest industry against American fees and tariffs, the idea of an ad campaign was raised. Eby highlighted the desire for an “integrated approach,” ensuring that future communications from British Columbia will be coordinated with American counterparts.

This decision follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent criticism of an anti-tariff ad campaign by Ontario, leading to the suspension of trade talks with Canada. The Trump administration’s imposition of significant duties on Canadian companies, coupled with national security concerns, has further escalated tensions in the trade relationship.
