New West Police Launch Urgent Witness Search Following Brutal Downtown Assault

Police in New Westminster are seeking further witnesses following a violent incident that took place near the River Market on Thursday evening. The altercation, which occurred close to 9 p.m. at a pedestrian overpass on the south end of 8th Street, left a man with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

According to reports, a group of five individuals initially assaulted one victim before turning their aggression towards another man who intervened to help. The group, comprised of three men and two women, is currently being sought by investigators.

Sgt. Andrew Leaver of the NWPD reassured potential witnesses, particularly the second victim, that their accounts are crucial to the ongoing investigation and urged them to come forward for their safety and the progression of the case.
