Following the conclusion of the World Series Game 7 in downtown Toronto early Sunday, there has been a surge of public outcry towards the TTC and Metrolinx regarding service and communication issues. City officials and frustrated residents have raised concerns over the lack of adequate transit accommodations for fans leaving the event.
Coun. Josh Matlow expressed disappointment at the handling of the situation, emphasizing the need for accountability and improvement in response to service disruptions. The dissatisfaction stemmed from a post made on the City of Toronto X account that stated transit services would not wait for the game to end, potentially leaving attendees stranded.
Despite some additional train services provided by GO Transit, all train operations ceased before 1 a.m., prompting criticism from residents and officials alike. Videos on social media captured confrontations between fans and transit staff over the sudden service stoppage.
Matlow and TTC chair Jamaal Myers proposed measures to enhance late-night transit services during major events and enhance collaboration with Metrolinx. However, Metrolinx defended its actions, citing operational constraints that prevented further service extensions beyond scheduled hours.
