John Schneider, the manager who led the Toronto Blue Jays to an impressive 20-win turnaround and a spot in the World Series, is now in the running for the American League Manager of the Year award. Alongside him are contenders Stephen Vogt from the Cleveland Guardians and Dan Wilson from the Seattle Mariners. The winner of this prestigious honor will be announced on Nov. 11.
Under Schneider’s leadership, the Blue Jays made a remarkable leap in the standings, securing 94 victories and clinching the AL East title, marking their first division championship since 2015. Their standout performance included a league-leading 49 comeback wins, showcasing the team’s resilience and depth across the roster throughout the 2025 season.
Interestingly, Bobby Cox remains the sole Blue Jays manager to have claimed the Manager of the Year title back in 1985. Vogt, a previous recipient of the award in 2024, guided the Guardians to 88 wins and a triumphant comeback in the AL Central, erasing a significant deficit to secure a spot in the playoffs. On the other hand, Wilson steered the Mariners to a successful season with 90 wins, culminating in their first AL West title since 2001, dethroning the dominant Houston Astros.
Despite the Blue Jays’ remarkable World Series journey, voting for the award took place earlier, so their postseason run will not be a factor in the decision-making process.
In a recent announcement by Major League Baseball and the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA), the finalists for the 2025 season’s major awards were disclosed. The winners for all awards, including the Rookie of the Year, Cy Young, and MVP awards, will be unveiled next week.
