Brampton Seniors Fall Prey to Cunning Jewelry Scam, Police Issue Urgent Warning

Peel Regional Police Issue Warning Over Targeted Crimes Against Seniors in Brampton

Residents in Brampton are being cautioned by Peel Regional Police following a spate of distraction thefts that have been aimed at elderly individuals.

According to local reports, there have been several incidents where suspects have been approaching senior citizens who are walking alone. The suspects reportedly strike up conversations with the victims, often luring them closer to a vehicle. Because of language barriers, many victims have struggled to fully grasp the nature of these interactions.

Once in close proximity, the suspects swiftly grab or surreptitiously replace the victim’s jewelry before making a quick getaway from the scene.

In certain cases, it has been observed that a female suspect pretends to offer assistance or engage the victim in conversation, while a male accomplice from a nearby vehicle forcibly snatches the jewelry.

Authorities are advising residents to exercise caution, especially when unfamiliar individuals in vehicles approach them. Investigators are also reaching out to the public for any surveillance or dashcam footage that could aid in identifying the suspects.

Peel Regional Police encourage anyone with pertinent information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigations.
