The Quebec government is making efforts to mend its relationship with the province’s doctors after disagreements arose over a new law affecting their payment methods. Treasury Board president France-Élaine Duranceau announced that Premier François Legault is eager to reopen discussions with the doctors to address the issues at hand.
Health Minister Christian Dubé has assured that certain aspects of the controversial law, which alter how physicians are compensated, will be put on hold to allow for negotiations to take place. Premier Legault has faced criticism for pushing through the law, which includes severe penalties for doctors who resist the changes, leading to the resignation of one minister.
Meanwhile, the Quebec federation of medical students has taken legal action by seeking the suspension of specific portions of the law in court today.
